We have started a regular, one day only exhibition in our HQ searchroom. The mini exhibition provides researchers with a snapshot of our collections. Our HQ searchroom is open by prior appointment on Tuesdays and today our mini exhibition has been collated by our graduate trainee. Our first snapshot is an introduction to Alexander Waters, born on a Jamaican estate owned by the Hamilton family of Rozelle Estate in Ayr. Alexander was brought to Ayrshire by Colonel Hamilton and worked as a mason at Sundrum Castle. He married and lived out his life in Ayrshire, being interred in Coylton Churchyard in 1893. A related item on display today is a List of Negroes and Stock dated 1756 on the Pemberton Valley Plantation in Jamaica (Ref: DC17/113) which was also owned by the Hamiltons of Rozelle. This item it within the main Hamilton of Rozelle collection currently being relisted by Ayrshire Archives staff. If you missed it today, this mini exhibition may appear again!
